I think it's something to do with St. Benedict, but I'm too busy brushing my hair to do a proper Google on it.

It does. The Benedictines, followers of St. Benedict, are also called Olivetans.

Yes, that's why I'm wondering.

Well, there's the 'peace' angle, I suppose. Maybe he'll bring about a new era of religious harmony or something, before the apocalypse kills all the unbelievers.

Great. Peace through continued (and possibly heightened) intolerance.

I still harbor a tiny bit of hope that I'm just being a doomsayer, though my ability to hope when all else is darkness is near legendary (shame I can't seem to make it work that way for myself).

Well, from what I've heard he's been talking about peace and reconciliation with other denominations and non-Christian religions.

Of course, the apocalypse is why all this is interesting, since if the all prophecies are true he's the last pope before it all begins. :)

Hopefully he'll live long enough for me to afford to build a bunker in the highlands.

Reading Revelations is kind of creepy, since 50 years ago it'd be unimaginable but today it seems that more and more becomes explainable. For example the mark of the beast - a mark that everybody who wants to engage in commerce must have on their right hand or on their forehead - could be an RFID bank/credit tag.

I actually find Benedict XVI's comments about religious outreach and stuff particularly creepy in regards to the whole New World Order/One World Religion bit.

I wonder how much it costs to build a decent bunker?

Wasn't Reveletion (I think there's no 's'...I think it's supposed to be the Revelation of St. John or something) one of those books that made it into the Bible only by the skin of its teeth?
